The winter months can often seem like cocoon season, where seeds planted from the previous year are still in slow bloom before blossoming into a prettier garden, along with the sunshine.
Spring equinox in the northern hemisphere was originally known as the new cycle of a year before the Gregorian calendar being introduced in 1582, so.. taking your nervous system at a relaxed and nurturing pace would be the more natural process in these months, giving space and empathy to your resolutions and goals set for the year till about March and April.
As with everything, I encourage listening to your intuition, your body always knows the way, look how amazingly it has carried you here and how our DNA has miraculously been in-tune with creation since the beginning of time. Awareness of your basic animal instincts helps to understand your own Mother Nature and it’s harmony.
The triggers and reactions felt (in the body, mind and soul), to your environment and energy of your quantum field always give a clue as to what’s going on, how safe you feel and what is needed for your inner and outer world.
Our primal response when in fight/flight is to move the energy in our body. This can be by shaking, stretching, rocking, deeper slower breathing, humming, sighing, changing body temperature, tapping tension areas, stamping out energy etc. all of these different trauma release practices and our natural way to regulate emotions by stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system which helps the body to relax after it thinks it is in danger.
On the other hand, we can enjoy such fun, ecstatic and blissful times also with this movement remedy.. bringing our individual dance to this song of life and fully embodying the joy of our true spirit.
Some of my favourite ways to regulate my nervous system are by massaging my acupressure points on my hands and feet with oil and a massage stick or even a gua sha stone, especially when having difficulty sleeping. I have witnessed some miracles through the power of reflexology and acupuncture and would recommend introducing such a easy and free way to explore the soles of their feet and witness helping their own anatomy.
Putting on some music and singing and dancing my heart out when my body doesn’t feel like a strenuous workout in these colder months also fills a deep space in my heart and makes it smile no matter what time of day or year! Sometimes all the body wants is to pull and expand with gentle stretching and holding myself, after losing my ‘everyday hugging partner’, I have become quite good at hugging myself especially when closing my eyes and bringing in the energy of unconditional love with each embrace.
Tapping is another go-to. Before becoming an EFT practitioner I noticed my restless leg syndrome that would even give Thumper the rabbit a run for his money! Tapping certain points on our bodies while saying affirmations reprogrammes the belief system while releasing existing blocks of energy through our meridian lines.
